| Abstract of Project : | |
| Zingiberaceae, a medicinal plant family among, finds extensive use in the indigenous system of medicine and many are endemic to the North-east region, one of the biodiversity 'Hot-spots" in India. Work on this family is regularly constrained by difficulties in species identification due to similar morphology. My research focus is to resolve taxonomic ambiguities among wild accession of the members of Zingiberaceae, using genomic tools and also to develop molecular markers to identify members of a given species for future use. Analysis of sample sequences for repeat content in wild accession of Zingiberaceae along with other loci information will help in assessment of the stability of the genome and hence the evolutionary pattern. | |
